Spring Semester First Bite: New Play Series
A spring showcase for emerging U of I Master of Fine Arts playwrights, featuring free staged readings of new works on Zoom. Each performance is followed by a question-and-answer session with the playwright.
"Diamond in the Rough" by Lane Richins, MFA candidate
"Diamond in the Rough" is a comedy about a comedy, based on a comedy, flush with 70's TV nostalgia and meta-takes on TV in the 90's. Through four characters - a comic and former child star, his sister (also his manager), a famous actor past his prime, and a faded director of old Hollywood glamour - we discover the power of television, and the people who make it. A surreal comedy of nostalgia.
